Joyeuses fêtes de fin d'année à tous!

Et ce sera mon dernier post de l'année. Ce n'est pas comme si j'avais submergé ma flist non plus ;o)

Latest news from the 'Was' front

  • Dec. 27th, 2009 at 10:10 PM
Word count: 92,209.

Holy flaming word count Batman! Until today, I hadn't realized how much I had been working on this story! It may be hard to believe, given the amount of plans for novels I've got in my lil' head, but Was is probably one of those I've gone the further with. And I'm still working without a plan. That's the most amazing part, I think.

Reflecting on this, I'm really starting to wonder if the more serious I am with a 'book', the less I work on it, and conversely. I mean, seriously. Was is filled to the brim with tropes that I voluntarily include it just for the sake of it, because I find it funny. I spend hours in writing sessions with [info]rapunzelita and then we laugh like whales joking about our characters' sexual orientation and whether I should finally write slash drabbles about them. I'm just not writing like any 'good' writer should. And I guess that's precisely the reason why words are flying from my fingers and onto the keyboard and then the screen: because I'm not taking things seriously.

Is it paradoxal, or not, all thing considered?

Anyway—I finished episode 21 today. Since we didn't do much for Christmas, except on the 25th, I've had plenty of time to write, and it's easy to see. I've also wasted time on TV Tropes, but that's another story. Tomorrow, I'll post episode 14. And then I'll proceed to whack my head against the wall, because Marek is crossing the line again, and I actually love that. Word.

WTF?

Dear Marek, (bis repetita)

You're disgusting. And I mean it.

Because, see, stabbing yourself in the throat with Ring's ceremony knife just to prove a point is not appropriate. I repeat: Not. Appropriate.

No love,

The author.

PS. And this tells me that I should really, really, really go to bed now. It's past 2 am, for doG's safe.

Teaser-like

(Lou, bent over her computer, Lyle's name and address flashing on her screen...)
“It can’t be. No way. I’m not interested in that guy!”

(Echoes, hands on his keyboard, looking at a worried Ring...)
“I’m loaded on cheese, Nutella and maple syrup for my canned haggis, if that’s what you mean.”

(Lyle, his gaze empty and transfixed, driving on auto-pilot through the streets of London...)
“What I need... I must... must... protect!

(Moira's voice, recorded in an old report...)
“The probability of reality collapsing on a 20-miles radius has now increased to 90%, and is still growing.”

(Marek, sword in hand, locked in a deadly dance with Layla, his face barely a few inches from hers...)
“Yes, that’s it. Come on! Fight with all you’ve got. Give me your best. Make me feel alive again!

(Mother, standing in front of Lou, her hands raised to cast a deadly spell...)
“Call your Heartless one to help. But do not be too long. I will not be so patient.”

(Echoes, outstretching a hand for Lou to catch it and jump in the cab with him...)
"Come with me if you want to live!"

Was: Coming soon in a Livejournal near you.

Ode à Stan, et à son gros nez...

  • Dec. 22nd, 2009 at 11:28 PM

Do you have any old holiday movies or TV shows that you look forward to seeing again and again? What are your all-time favorites?

Voir les réponses

LA GRANDE VADROUILLE.
Because De Funes+ Bourvil+ lame English+ Turkish baths = AWESOME.
The kind of awesome every French baby has been fed with since they are born.
It's aired on TV next sunday, how strange... XD

And this Christmas tendancy is the XVIIIe.
First a telefilm about Cartouche that I'm currently watching. It's fun to see all the characters I used to watch in the cartoon played by real actors, but the result isn't bad at all for now. Diefenthal is in character. La Reynie (Falconi) is dark, evil but sexy, as usual (*drools*). I just hope we'll see more of Le Lorrain, because he is the best, this damn aristocrat!
And next week, there's something about Louis XV.
Fichtre et diantre.

By the way is it me or it's snowing again? 5th day of snow in a row youhou!!
It has beginning to melt today - a disaster for the Neighbour, his house was flooded, and it was kinda depressing to see the snow disappear. Maybe there's a little chance it will last until Christmas but I doubt it.

Otherwise, the holidays are going nicely.

Sunday, my cousin should have come to cut my and my brother's hair, but unfortunately, she had an accident (she's fine but her car suffered) so I spent the afternoon doing my Christmas card. Beware, because I got into a calligraphy mood for some of them ;p

Yesterday, I went to Nancy to see [info]blackmarquise and [info]myrtilleuh
I managed to get to the Place Stan in time ("because of a problem on a foreign line *blame Luxembourg* you train will arrive with an indertemined delay". Thanks, SNCF, you're useful) to meet the girls. We went to L'Ambassy and stayed the whole afternoon, chatting in front of chocolate and a croque-monsieur about more or less serious subjects. From how life would be wonderful if Johnny was dead to Hetalia, from being impartial and respectful while talking about colonisation to.... STANISLAS LESCZCYNSKI (Stan, one day, I'll know how to write your name).
Then we played at the train-station. And I discovered the Relay had some interesting books about the regional history  - like  "Boches ou Tricolores"  (nice title, I hope the content isn't as biaised  ;p)
I came back to Thionville around 20h30. Took 40 min instead of 10 to get back home because of the snow. The weather was like that :

Au fait : les filles, je vous aime. On remet ça en février! Avec cette fois une photo de Stanislas, parce qu'il va être triste si on l'oublie de nouveau!

And today, I read and clean Jean Laurent, because the docs were in a little mess

And a couple more for Was, that I had forgotten to scan when I did Paul's and Marek's.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usAristeles Salonikos, current leader of the Anima Mundi, and the one who founded it, a few centuries ago. Most of the time, he poses as a nice little man who enjoys his wine and chess games more than anything else, and doesn't care too much about the politics of his Order. Of course, you can bet that this is only a facade. That shiny bastard of a Chessmaster (literally and figuratively) actually has a lot of blood on his hands, having notably got rid of his old Covenant of alchemists. Then, he made Marek immortal. Just for that, he deserves to be shot.

And I wouldn't be surprised if him and Marek... well... *shipping much?*

Ewan Carlisle, a.k.a. Echoes. Ye good olde Playful Hacker who only started to work for the Anima Mundi because it was either that or a bullet in the head. He performs his magic using mainly a Blackberry and Grendel, his faithful (and much twinked) laptop. Not so much a fighter as a spy, bending space to scry and travel at will, and multitasking like crazy thanks to his mental abilities. He's also very talented at digusting his teammates by eating weird food combinations. So far, we've got: cheese+Nutella, canned haggis+maple syrup, peanut butter+garlic, and Marmite on waffles. Actually, just by typing this, I think I'm going to be sick. Go, Echoes.

More baby than baby, or defies uncanny valley by fashioning impressionistic rather than realistic image.

Today I bring you a couple of doodles I did during the week in my wee sketchbook. Actually, I did them during class (yeah, such a great teacher I am, huh... worse than my students XD), so they were all dirty, and I was too lazy to properly clean them afterwards. Yet here they are all the same. I fancied doing something in a more realistic style, or at least, in a style as realistic as I can manage (which is still far from truly realistic, but nevermind that).

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usPaul Bachimont, a.k.a. "the Dowser". He appears in episodes 1 and 7, and is mentioned in episodes 9 and 15 as well. (I guess we'll see him again in yet-to-be-written chapters, by the way.) He' one of the Anima Mundi Keepers of the 1989 team, and uses a pendulum as a focus for his Space magic.

Paul is a character I created on a whim on the very first day of NaNo, and then, I grew quite fond of him. Must be why you get a picture of him instead of one of the main characters. A-hum. I think the inspiration behind his physical appearance somewhat came from Aber/Thierry Morello (Death Note) at first, but now I'm not so sure anymore. Oh, well. I like picturing him as always wearing frumpy clothes, as if he had slept without undressing first, and always looking like he hasn't got a good shave in the past three days... all the while being very careful with his maps, foci, books and other tools/items. I find that contrast funny.

Marek Van Cartier, the one who looks so much like ye good olde pleasant salaryman, and is actually one of the worst people in my story. Granted, he's on the "good guys"'s side, but that's what the Token Evil Teammate is for, right?

Here as well in a somewhat realistic style. Getting an appropriate expression for him on paper proved harder than I thought. He's not supposed to look like a complete sociopath, not at first sight, anyway (that's only in episode 16, guys), but I still wanted to see him with that weird smile and somewhat dreamy look of his. And yeah, I'm aware I've got a lil' something for guys with wavy long brown hair. Sue me.

Liste de mes OCs

  • Dec. 19th, 2009 at 11:21 AM

VACANCES! VACANCES! VACANCES!
NEIGE! NEIGE! NEIGE!

Everything is white and pretty, I'm happy. Though it's utterly dangerous to walk in the streets (I experienced it when I had to go out to buy a English-themed pajama for my uncle - Union jack, red everywhere and so on... in a shop named Arthur. LOL. Except the price is totally expensive O___o)
But today I'm in holidays.
And it's cold enough for me to beg Mutti to cook me lentille soup and grompeer XD.

My week was pretty much uneventful.
I had my first oral test last monday. It went smoothly - I kinda try to make my teacher admit the documents he gave me totally sucked (because talking about Val d'Oise when your subject is about Seine Saint Denis, it's out of the subject èé).
On tuesday, I planned to join the demonstration organized against the reform after my class (I didn't want to skip, because the subject was important) but I didn't find when I got into the town. Epicfail. For once I kinda really wanted to demonstrate. I guess there'll be other occasions :3
I also got the note of my British history CAPES exam... :  09/20! Knowing you need 07 to be eligible and the subject totally sucked, I find, as the teacher wrote, the result encouraging for a first try.

Since Christmas is coming, I'm in a Christmas mood!
I visited the Christmas market, who was far better than last year. Nothing exceptionnal, but fine.  And today, I watched Le Père Noël est une ordure and listened to some Jacques Dutronc  because he's better than any Christmas carol (I had L'opportuniste in my head and sang it the whole damn week...  the live at the Grand Journal didn't help at all *o*).
I'm going back home tomorrow. No wifi connection anymore but who cares?I'll get my dogs of love!
Drunk, cross-dressing 4 year old steals neighbor's presents.

So, they are calling for snow for Friday and into Saturday for us in North Carolina. Get ready for people going crazy buying everything the can off the shelves in grocery stores and school closings! I think I'll just sit back and relax and try not to laugh to loud.

Recent Thrift Store Finds

Which freed up room for more junk! )

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas!

  • Dec. 15th, 2009 at 1:53 PM
All I can say is holy cow! I can't believe Christmas is next week. This year has pretty much flown by. Seattle and I are always last minute Christmas shoppers. So this weekend we'll wake up and eat breakfast and enjoy the hussle and bussle of being one of those last minute fans. Since it's always hard to decide what to give family and friends this year, we always go with the old route of buying everyone giftcards. It's cheaper and is less stressful trying to find the perfect gift. Even though there's no such thing as "the perfect gift". When I was a child and we had Christmas in New York, it was always fun to see the snow fall and open up presents. There was this one time, I went to a store called Jamesway in our town of Hyde Park, New York. My father and I went together to go Christmas shopping while my mother and sister stayed at home. Since we were young my sister and I played with Barbie dolls. There was this barbie doll named "Vanessa" that I purchased cause with it being named Vanessa and it having the same name as my sister I had to get it. So, I end up wrapping it up and stuffing it under the tree. When Christmas arrives the following day, my sister and I are excited to see gifts under the tree. I hand her the gift my father and I purchased and she hands me my present. Both presents are exactly the same length and wrapped very neatly. We both rip into the packages and then we both look at each other and start to laugh. It seems that we both bought ourselves the same exact barbie doll. How often does that occur. I always look back and see how funny that is every year. My family also never cooked a ham or turkey for Christmas. I know that seems odd, but it's true. Since we are Italian my father always cooked seafood for Christmas. Just something different. And my sister and I would always would have fun dressing up in our snow suits and playing in our back yard in the snow. We would always loose our dog Duke cause he blended in so well with the snow since he was white, but he loved it. My father would always join us and build a snow man and we would even have snowball fights. My father always won though. But as for now, as for myself as I grow older, I don't want anything for Christmas. It's always nice to spend it with family and friends.
